Learning Object Transform ( Move, Scale, Rotate, Mirror ) in Blender.

Hello guys, we’re finally on object transform tutorial. This tool is one of the most important tool you need to master before you modeling an object or start make a project. At first you will feel the transform tool in blender is weird and difficult, but actually when you good at it, it’s faster than other 3d software.

Move Object:

The best way to move an object in your scene is by shortcut G the type X, Y, Z. Depending on which align axis you choose. Example, if you want to move an object align X axis, then type G + X button on keyboard. You can add number if there is a specific value. Or you could just click on X axis arrow and move along its line.

You also can click on object ( menu panel ) —> transform —> grab/move ( G ).

Tips: If you press Ctrl + Drag left mouse, then the moving object will be exactly in grid value. You will see the object move is kinda stiff.

Rotate Object:

For Rotate, just like grab, you can use shortcut R with example like this: R + X ( axis ) + 45 ( example for 45 degree ). For reset back to 0 degree press Alt + R.

Let’s say you want to change your origin point. From pictures below, I first move the 3d cursor to outside of torus object, then click on Set Origin —> Origin to 3d Cursor. Now i can rotate the object with its origin point outside of torus. Continue reading Learning Object Transform ( Move, Scale, Rotate, Mirror ) in Blender.

Confuse to Select and Group an Object in Blender?. Here’s the Easy Steps!.

As I mentioned on my blender ui introduction post, one of the reason I left blender a few years ago is its unusual select an object command. If you a beginner user, you probably as confused as me too. But, it’s quiet easy actually, you just need a little time to get use to it. For selection, there are several ways to do it. Every method you choose have a good side and a bad side. I’m not gonna show you all, just the ones I use a lot, and hopeful it’s also work for you. I let you decide which one is comfy for you.

Selection in Blender:

1. Right Click.

This is pretty common command.

  • To select a single object, you just have to right click on that object.
  • To select more than 1 object press shift + right click. The same command apply if you want to deselect an object.
  • The last object to be selected will be in light orange.

Very Basic Camera & Render Setting in Blender.

After you know my everyday viewport tricks, now I’m gonna show you a very basic camera and render setting in blender 2.77. Unlike sketchup, you only can render a scene from camera view. When I try render from blender for the first time I got confuse, but it’s actually easy. Blender default already have a complete scene: an object, a lamp, and a camera. Try F12 ( Render ) that scene. Now you will have a result like below:

How to Use Camera:

If you want to change your viewport to camera view, press numpad 0. From this view, you can see the border of your camera. This camera is lock, so you can’t zoom, pan, or rotate the scene from this setting. To be able to do those adjustment, there 3 ways that I usually use. All Tricks to Master Blender 2.77 View and Viewport.

After my very first post about blender 2.77 user interface, now we move to view and viewport. Some new user will find it difficult to adjust because sometimes the general command that we used to other 3d software, maybe not working on blender 3d. You only have to spend more time on blender. There’s so many command to approach just one job, you can find it using numpad, menu option, or a mouse click/scroll. In this post I will only show you a command that I use the most.

Camera Orbit

By default you can play camera orbit with mouse, just hold the middle wheel mouse and move it around viewport, just like other 3d software.
