I will open this post with: Never wait to updating the latest PHP version of your WordPress web. If a warning appears on the dashboard, it should be updated immediately, don’t be like me hahaha. So about 2 weeks ago I got a warning for the latest version of the php update. Then, I just ignored it, maybe because this blog still look good.
Well, last thursday there was a very significant decrease in traffic and an inaccessible admin page. The point is that my server is temporarily “unavailable”. Enough to make me panic anyway hehehe. The first guess is this caused by older php version that I still use and it turns out to be true. To update to the latest php version, we must do it through our hosting server. So please login first to your cpanel. By the way, I use hosting from Namecheap.
BackUp WordPress Blog with Softaculous:
To be honest there is no need to backup the wordpress web before updating the php version. But if you want to feel safer, there is no harm to do it. For backups I usually use Softaculous, an application installer that is available in-built from your hosting provider. Look for Softaculous Apps Installer and choose WordPress. If you have blogspot/blogger blog, here’s how to backup the content.
Just like what I mentioned on my previous post, it’s been a while since I publish an article. So imagine my surprise when I see wordpress post editor have change to block editor. I know a lot of WordPress user are not happy including me of course. Everything in new editor is in a sleek block design. You can add and move around the block. What I don’t like about this design is it’s so sensitive. You can accidentally drag one block and no idea where it is on your post. Also the feature (with its tiny icon) is hidden in its drop-down menu, you have to click it to find what you need. So not practical.
Maybe it’s just need some adjustment, right?. But, honestly we’re bloggers just need a simple editor. There’s a way if you want to switch back to classic editor. I wish wordpress give us option though, but for this you need a plugin called Classic Editor. So, go ahead install and activate Classic Editor plugin. Once its activated, click on Settings. Now on default editor for all users check Classic Editor. And on allow users to switch editors check yes. Don’t forget to click on save changes button.
I honestly don’t remember when was the last time I write an article about wordpress or blogging tips. I apologize for that. But, now I’m back with a new article, adsense earnings at risk ads.txt file issues, that I’m sure will be helpful, hopefully :). About a couple months ago, I received a warning on my Adsense account said: “Earnings at risk – One or more of your sites does not have an ads.txt file. Fix this now to avoid severe impact to your revenue”.
I ignore it for a while because my adsense revenue is not that big and I don’t pay too much attention on it. But then, in this last two months my revenue increase in good number, so I thought maybe I should fix the ads.txt issue and see how it goes. Also I want my dashboard more “clean” :). It’s fixing is easy though. You just need to click on Fix Now button and download the ads.txt file. See pictures below:
